What A Trip: Impulse-Buying A Classic Ford Mustang
I really haven’t had time to post on my web site quite as much as I would’ve liked, on account of all the time I’ve been dealing with my Dad with his incredibly wacky midlife crisis. True, I guess it’s not as far out as it could possibly be. You see, what he did was he dressed up like he was Fonzie or something, and drop by to my place and casually inform me, in his hippest dialect: “Get ready, bro, you and I are gonna start vying for some classic Mustangs for sale. That’s right, brother, I’m all set to do this thing.”
Before I knew what was happening the two of us were hopping around to a couple of those wild classic car showrooms that most people are just about convinced are owned by the mob, and I am just awed my dad wrote a check right there on the spot, for a very gleaming classic Ford Mustang. It’s an intense purchase. It sounded amazing too.
You’ll notice I phrased about that sound in the past tense. It sounded really nice right up until it stopped making any noises. My pops informs me that it’s a pretty quick problem and he just needs the right part. Of course, it is not as easy to find classic Mustang parts as it was some three decades years ago, but Dad informs me there’s a pretty good-sized aftermarket for them in spite of their age. Apparently the nicest way to buy parts for 1968 Mustangs is by way of internet auctions, because you can get them refurbished and occasionally as good as new. They’re only sometimes that inexpensive, however… I mean, these are thirty year old automotive parts.
I suppose it could’ve been worse. He could have got himself a harley.
