British Calendar Trends: From Beryl Cook to Manchester
It has come to that time of year where people are getting excited about the New Years Eve celebrations and the start of 2009. With the change of the year people are starting to turn their attention to buying calendars for 2009. Calendarswa are a perfect present for the New Year and there are a wide range of calendars available that you can find one to match anybodies personality.
You usually find that you get the regular calendars featuring lingerie models, football teams, cats and puppies and more but in Britain we also have quirky and unique calendars, which have become very popular. Calendars can represent the broad range of personalities that there are in Britain and the Calendar club give regular reports on what is hot and what is not in the world of calendars.
Calendars featuring artists are very popular whether they contain painted landscapes, photographs of people and places, portraits or abstract art. Artwork calendars are either a group of artwork by a particular artist or a selection of art prints by a range of artists. Beryl Cook is a very fashionable UK artist from Plymouth, that has a very successful calendar of Beryl Cook prints. Other UK born artists like Tim Bulmer and Doug Hyde have had their work featured as a collection of British artists work.
Landscapes are also a firm favourite and come in a variety of styles. You tend to get a lot of calendars that have photographs of the beautiful countryside in the UK and these tend to look like an advert for British walking holidays and seaside towns. There are countless examples of areas such as Bournemouth beaches, people walking in the Yorkshire meadows and english castles. You will also find cityscapes featuring many of the United Kingdom’s biggest cities and towns in some of the most popular streets in these locations. London, Birmingham and Manchester are often featured as they have many famous tourist attractions but as well as this you also get to see all the Manchester restaurants and London taxis.
When it comes to quirky calendars, Britain has a history of producing interesting calendars to raise money for charity. Some recent inclusions and additions have been the naked farmers and the almost naked pictures of Women’s Institute members, which went on to become a film. In 2009 tractors are a popular theme, with one calendar having 365 different pictures of tractors, one for every day. Then there are the puppies trying out yoga and water skiing and goats too have apparently become the calendar to have in 2009. The king of the calendars that sells by the boatload each year and hasn’t been out of the top 10 for the past 25 years and that man is Cliff Richard!
